Description
A while back, I was chatting with one of my tutoring students, and they told me about a water balloon fight at camp that wasn’t fun because some balloons wouldn’t break, so when they hit, they hurt for no reason! That got me thinking—crochet water balloons always ‘explode’ on impact – plus they're eco-friendly – so I began making crochet water balloons.
Summer birthday parties and summer in general can sometimes require creative ways to keep kids entertained but also cool. Especially if it's also an adult event you're trying to keep them busy at. And sure, you can rent an inflatable pool or bounce house but if you’re short on space and budget those might not be an option.
Water balloons take a ton of time on the front end filling them up and on the back end picking up all the tiny rubber pieces. Reusable crochet water balloons mean you don’t have to fill them up ahead of time and kids can have a never ending supply of ammo for a water balloon fight on a moment’s notice.
1. Fill a couple of buckets with water and balloons.
2. Sit back and let the kids tire themselves out. Just dunk the balloons in the bucket to ‘refill’ them!
3. If they get dirty, toss them in the washing machine. Air-dry or machine-dry them to avoid mildew.
Customers have loved using these for outdoor weddings, beach days when the tide is too strong to swim or the water is too cold, park birthday parties, as party favors, and more. They’re also perfect for toddlers learning to catch, throw, and aim. And for a fun twist, how about a water balloon drop or a water fight with dark-colored balloons for a gender reveal party or photoshoot?
Please note that while there are plenty of other crochet water balloons available from other artists, mine are a bit different. After seeing and making water balloons following patterns designed by other crochet designers I saw two big gaps I wanted to fill – so I designed my own pattern! First, since I wanted my balloons to be useful outside of the occasional water balloon fight, I wanted them to be manageable for tiny little hands. My design has a more lacy pattern instead of a typical tighter stitch so even the tiniest of hands can grab on to it. Second, the lacier stitch pattern means that it's lighter than a similarly sized balloon with a tighter stitch pattern. So even when it's fully saturated with water it will be lighter and hurt less on impact.
